The storms we received over the last two weeks made fishing at Pyramid Lake very good. The Truckee River experienced increased flows and now looks to settle around 500cfs at the Reno gauge. Looking forward, we have a a stretch warm weather and little precipitation. Look for the Truckee River BWO hatch to continue and for fishing to improve.

Midges are still king out at the lake with Micro Midges have been working the best. Looks like we have a calming trend for the next week or so as a few big storms have blown through our area. These are the conditions where you need to size everything down in order to better fool the LCT. Midges in a size 10-14 and 3x fluorocarbon tippet are going to produce the most fish. The weather will also warm up the water quickly. This means that more fish will become active as we are getting close to 50° surface temperature. This is also the time that fish will begin to go shallow. We've been fishing around 9’ pretty consistently, but will start to target shallow water to find the feeding zones. When using micro midges it is also a good idea to use split shot to make sure that your leader is tight to your indicator.
The strip bite has picked up early and late, around the changes of light. This should continue to ramp up as we get closer to the spawn and as the water warms. Any overcast or windy weather will fish well on the strip. We like dark colored Beetles and Boobies this time of year, but mix it up as the fish will sometimes key into the lighter colored flies.
Our February and first two weeks of March are completely booked at Pyramid Lake. We only have a few days left at the end of March. If you still want to get in, call the shop and grab these last few available days!
Flies we suggest for Pyramid Lake:
Holo Midge (brown/red, albino wino, black/copper), TB Balanced Leech (peacock and midnight) Popcorn Beetle (black/black), Booby Fly (white/chartreuse), Mopcorn (black/pink), Pyramid Lake Bugger (midnight and white/chartreuse)
